2.2 Teaching methods and facilities
Children and adults who do acquire language successfully outside the
classroom seem to share certain similarities in their learning experiences.
First of all, they are usually exposed to language which they more or less
understand even if they can’t produce the same language spontaneously
themselves. Secondly, they are motivated to learn the language in orderto
be able to communicate. And finally, they have opportunities to use the
language they are learning, thus giving themselves chances to flex their
linguistic muscles-and check their ownprogress and abilities.
Babies and children get endless exposure to their first language coupled
with emotinal support.
All students make mistakes at various stages of their language
learning. It is part of the natural process they are going through and occurs
for a number of reasons.
Most adults can learn a language without stuying it, providing they
are in the right kind of contact with it. Though they may have more trouble
with pronunciation ang grammar than younger learners, they may still be
able to communicate fluently.
Most successful teachers move around the classroom to some
exteny. That is the way they can retain their stuent’s interest, if they are
leading an activity or work more closely with smaller groups (when they
go to help a pair or group).
How much a teacher moves around in the classroom, then, will
depend on his or her personal style, where he or she feels most comfortable
for the management of the class, how she or he feels it easiest to manage
the classroom effectively, and whether or not he or she wants to work with
smaller groups.
It is important to teachers to vary the quality of their voices - and the
volume they speak at – depending on the type of lesson and the type or
activity. So the kind of voice you use to give instructions a new activity
will be ifferent from the voice which is most appropriate for conversation
or an informal exchange of views or information.
Teach do not alwals explain exactly that they are going to do, however
, since they sometimes want to maintain an element of surprise. But even in
such cases, a clear start to the lesson is necessary just at a play often start
with the rise of a curtain,a visit to the doctor starts when he or she asks you,
‘No then, what seems to be the problem?’ or ‘How can I help you?’
When an activity has finished and or anotherone is about to start, it
helps if teachers make this clear through the way they be have and the
things they say. It helps stuents if they are made clearly aware of the end of
something and and the beginning of what is coming nest. Frequently,
teachers need to re-focus the stuent’s attention, or point it in some new
direction.
where the lessons take place. Many teachers would like to re-arrange
their classes so that they are not always faced which rows an rows of bored
faces.
Even where this is physically impossible – in terms of furniture, for
example – there are things they can do to achieve this as we shall see in the
next section.
Good teachers are able to use different class groupings for different
activities. While they o it, they will monitor whichis more successful and
for wthat, so that they can always seek to be more efftive
Good teacher manergers also need to assess how wel their studens a
progresing. This can be one through a variety of maesures including
homework assignments , speaking activities where the taecher scores rhe
paticipation of each student, and frequent small progess test. Good
taecherkee a record of their student’ achievements so that they are alway
aware of how they are getting on. Only if teachers keep such kind of
progess records can they begin tosee when teaching and learning has not
been successful.
Reading texts also provide opportunities to study language:
vocabulary, grammer, The way students sit says a lot about the style of the
teacher or the institution punctuation, and the way we construct sentences,
paragraphs an tests. Lastly, good reading texts can introduce interesting
topics, stimulate discussion, excite imaginative responses and be the
springboard for well-rounded, fascinating lessons.
The teacher introduces the topic and asks stuents to give her any
words they associate with leisure activities. She writes them on the board
and adds any of her own that she thinks the students need, by far the most
important reason for teaching writing, of course, is that it is a basic
language skill, just as important as speaking, listening and reading.
Students need to know how to write letters, how to put written reports
together, how to reply to avertisements – and increasingly, how to write
using electronic media. They need to know some of writing’s special
conventions(punctuation, paragraph construction etc.) Just as they need to
know how to pronounce spoken English appropriately. Part of uor job is to
give them that skill.
The lesson always have a short listen to students check again, how to
ther pronouncation. The teachers are well trained and explain the concepts
clearly. Some time they change to teach with listen to music, english song,
this is lesson. Because the teacher also explain the new word in song.
The second major reason for teaching listening is because it helps
students to acquire language subconsciously even if teachers o not draw
attention to its special features
Listening to appropriate tapes provides such exposure and students get
vitalinformatoin not only about grammar and vocabulary but olso about
pronunciation, rhythm, intonation, pitch and stress
Listening is a skil and any help we can give student performing that
skill will help them to be better listeners
Everything depends on level and the kind of task that go with a tape
There may well be some authentic material which is usable by beginers
such as pre-recorded announcements, telephone masages stc. More difficult
material may be appropriate for elementary student provided that the
questions they are aksed do not demand detailed understanding.
Some teachers with experience seem to have an bility to think on their
feet, which allows them to believe that they do not need to plan their
lesson.
Howerver, most teacher go on preparing lessons throughout their
careers, even if the plans arevery informal. It is true that he or she may end
up departing from it at stages of the lesson, but at the very least, it will be
something to fall back on. Of course, good teachers are flexible and
respond creatively
To what happens in the classroom, but they also need to have thought
ahead, have a estination they want their students to reach, and know how
they are going to get there
A good lesson needs to contain a judicious blen of coherence
andvariety. A good lesson need to reflect this
2.3, The importance of English
English is the most international of languages. It is spoken as a native
language in the United States, Brirain, Australia, New Zealand, most of
Canada and in some other countries. It also used a second and foreign
language by 700 million people in the remaining pasts of the world. To
many people . English is an important language to master because it is
gateway to world scholarship and international trade. It has become the
official language in the fields of politics, business, science and technology.
So learning English opens a whole new world of opportunities for
you.
Among them are.
1. better job prospects
2. higher income
3. oversaes working opportunities
4. international commerce.
5. immigration to other countries.
6. meeting new friends
7. better quality of life.
In our country, English is the main foreign language which is taught in
schools and widely used in business. If we know English, we can read
variuos kinds of English books to widen our knowledge , to communicate
with most foreigners easily and, above all, to find a good job in a business
company
The world is progressing at very rapid pace. More and more people
are learning English to keep pace with the changes in the world. Speakers
of Englishas a second language will soon outnumber those who speak it as
a first language.
In brief, it is necessary for us to know English. If we know English
well, we have a better chance of improving our lives
